To celebrate the release of a new card set, Magic: The Gathering released 8,000 trackables to geocachers and fans all over the world with two separate promotion launches.

In the first launch, Magic fans and geocachers were invited to explore the newest plane of the Magic Multiverse, IXALAN. Geocachers took a Magic: The Gathering, IXALAN Treasure Piece trackable with them from cache to cache to reveal hidden secrets and Magic card previews. Geocachers shared their finds on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter using the hashtags #MTGGeocachers and #MTGXLN.

The second launch kicked off the excitement of Magic: The Gathering’s release of their new card set, Rivals of Ixalan. Geocachers and Magic fans took a Magic: The Gathering trackable with them from cache to cache to reveal card previews. Trackable mileage played a role in determining the winner of the golden city of Orazca at the end of the Rivals of Ixalan story. Geocachers shared their latest find on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter using the hashtags #MTGGeocachers and MTGRIX.

The City of Hannover promoted the Hanover Loves Me initiative to geocachers across Germany by producing 500 “Hanover Loves Me” trackables. The trackables were handed out at 23 different geocaching events throughout Germany and surrounding countries. Geocachers worked together to move the game pieces from geocache to geocache and shared their photos to social media with #homegeocaching. The grand prize winner received a 3-day trip for two to Hanover including but not limited to accommodations, a city tour, and a fireworks show. Hanover, Germany is a UNESCO City of Music, a Start-Up City, a Trade Fair Center and of course a popular geocaching city! Caching WaldenWALDEN Magazin trackable tag

WALDEN Magazin and Geheimpunkt sent out 900 WALDEN-deer trackables on an “Adventure at your doorstep” to geocachers across Germany. The trackable game pieces were handed out at 14 different geocaching events in Germany over the course of two weeks along the 1600 kilometer North-South cycling route of Germany’s Multi-Cache, GC3JH5D. Daniel Pflieger of Geheimpunkt cycled the entire route, hosted events along the way, and shared the experience on social media.

All geocachers were invited to join the fun and to share adventurous photos of a WALDEN trackable on Instagram. Geocachers tagged @walden_mag and #cachingwalden for a chance to win some cool gear from Fjällräven, Hanwag and Primus.

Hurtigruten expedition cruises released 3,000 Hurtigruten polar bear and penguin trackables for an epic adventure to geocachers in the United States. Geocachers and Professional Surveyors share a passion for technology and the outdoors. To show geocachers how to turn that passion into a professional surveying career, the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) launched the NCEES Surveyor Trackable and #PSnoboundaries Geocaching Contest.

Geocachers requestedan NCEES trackable or find one that’s already exploring the great outdoors in geocaches throughout the U.S. Geocachers took a photo of themselves and the trackables at a National Geodetic Survey (NGS) marker and shared them on Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #PSnoboundaries.

NCEES selected a winner at random from the photo contest and flew them to the 2015 Geocaching Block Party in Seattle!

The Revenant Movie Promotion

Greg, Rodrick, Manny, Mom, and Dad hit the road for a family trip, but they’ve lost a few things from their luggage along the way. Geocachers requested a Wimpy Kid trackable to help the Hefley’s lost luggage find its way home! The trackables were in the shape of the lost luggage for this fun promotion: sunscreen, socks, hat, swim shorts, suitcase, and …. Greg Hefley himself.


Find and GoAirstream trackable tag

Geocaching teamed up with Airstream for a trackable tag designed for those with a penchant to roam, a heart for exploration and a willingness to Find and Go.

The Airstream Silver Bullet Trackable made its debut at select Geocaching events where the tags were released among geocachers. If a geocacher couldn’t make it to an event they could find an Airstream Silver Bullet Trackable in the wild as they made their way from geocache to geocache and traveled across the U.S.

Photos of the trackable were submitted to the Airstream Facebook Page. Winning photos were selected each month starting in August, for Airstream prizes including a t-shirt, a journal, a flashlight, and more!

Geocaching and Doubleday Publishing Group, the publishing company behind some of the bestselling and prize-winning authors like John Grisham, partnered to promote The Racketeer. Gold ingot Geocoins were released to geocachers who then moved them from geocache to geocache to mirror the book's plot, in which ill-gained gold bars are moved around the United States. Geocachers moved the ingot Geocoins over 17 million miles and showed off their photography skills for a chance to win a real gold ingot!

Like many geocachers, the GEICO Gecko is ready to get out and soak up some sun while experiencing spectacular places around the world while geocaching. Geocachers could help the Gecko get a little R&R by aiding his travel moving the trackables from cache to cache.

The trackable Geckos were provided by GEICO as part of the "Find the Gecko Sweepstakes." Geocachers could complete the entry form each week for an opportunity to win a Magellan eXplorist GC GPS unit, one of the most popular GPS devices for geocaching!
