1.11. User privacy settings
Visibility of your geocaching profile
As part of our ongoing commitment to give you more control of your privacy, you can control the visibility of parts of your profile in the account settings menu. These settings allow you to control who sees elements of your Geocaching.com profile, including your profile picture, photo gallery, and list of finds so they are viewable by the public, your friends only, or private to you only.
Last visited date
This is the date you last logged in to your account on Geocaching.com and does not reflect your activity on the Geocaching® mobile app. Changing this privacy setting restricts other geocachers from seeing this date, but it will always be visible when viewing your own profile.
Profile location
You can edit your profile location in the Profile Information tab, or hide it completely in User Privacy settings. Profile location is empty by default and is not based on your Home Location.
About
You can edit your About section in the Profile Information tab, or hide it completely in User Privacy settings. It is blank by default, and any text you add can be deleted at any time.
Geocaches found
You can limit the players that can access your list of found geocaches. While the caches will be hidden from your profile with this setting, logs are always publicly visible on the cache pages of each geocache you find.
Trackables
You can limit the players that can access your list of trackables logged and activated. While the trackables will be hidden from your profile with this setting, logs are always publicly visible on the pages of each trackable you move or discover.
Souvenirs
Control the visibility of your entire list of souvenirs. You can hide individual souvenirs from your list of souvenirs page.
Gallery
You can limit the players that can access your gallery of images you've added to geocache and trackable logs. While gallery images will be hidden from your profile with this setting, gallery images are always publicly visible in your logs and the galleries of geocaches and trackables.
Statistics
Statistics are a Premium member feature. You can limit the players that can access your geocaching Statistics, maps, and milestones, or manage individual Statistics settings from your profile.
Block friend requests from other geocachers
When this box is checked, the ability to Add as friend from your profile is disabled and you will stop receiving friend requests. You can respond to individual friend requests from your Pending Friend Requests.
Show my activity on my friends' Dashboards
When this box is checked, your geocache and trackable logs will appear on the Latest activity feed on your friends' Dashboards. Your friends will not be alerted if you disable this feature.
Public information on your geocaching profile
For historical purposes, geocachers have always been able to view information related to playing the game, such as geocache and trackable logs. We believe it would fundamentally change the game in a negative way if users could not see geocache logs from other users, as well as geocaching photos, and information about trackable items they have interacted with.
The information your geocaching profile still publicly shows includes:
- Your username
- Join date
- Lists you have set to "public"
Any information that you submit to Geocaching.com will be treated in accordance with the terms of our privacy policy.
Tips to protect your privacy
At this time, there is no way to block another geocacher from seeing the entirety of your public profile page or your geocaching activity on individual cache pages. But you can take steps to better protect your privacy:
- Do not post information you wish to keep private on your geocaching profile or geocaching logs.
- Choose a username that doesn’t clearly identify you.
- Hide your statistics from your public profile.
- Choose a home location that is not your real address.
- Set List status to private, so that only you can see your Lists.
- Log caches a couple of days after you find them and backdate your logs.
If someone is harassing you or you feel unsafe, contact your local authorities.
1.12. Manage sharing with Geocaching API Authorized Developers
Geocaching HQ has long held the belief that although we’d like to, we can’t be all things to all geocachers. For this reason, several years ago, we created an API (application programming interface) for approved developers who are interested creating geocaching related websites and applications (“Authorized Developers”) to benefit the global geocaching community.
Through the API, Authorized Developers are able to display geocache and trackable data as well as Geocaching.com users’ public profile information to other Geocaching.com registered users.
To stop sharing your public profile and other information from Geoaching.com with our Authorized Developers and users of our Authorized Developers’ websites and applications, opt out in the Authorizations tab of your
Settings. Please note that as a geocache owner, even if you opt out, your cache description (including photos) will continue to be available in Authorized Developer applications. If you wish to stop sharing, you must delete any personal information from your cache description.
If you download or use an Authorized Developer’s application or website, you will be asked to give your permission to allow us to share certain non-public information such as your location data with the Authorized Developer. If you decline, you will be unable to use the Authorized Developer’s application or website.
Also, if you have opted-out of sharing your public profile information in your Geocaching.com Account Settings, you may notice that the Authorized Developer’s application or website has limited functionality.
More information on the API program.
1.13. Friends sharing on API
To share your Geocaching.com friends list with Geocaching API Authorized Developers, opt in to friends sharing. This allows Authorized Developer Applications that include friend features to share your geocaching activity in real time with people on your friends list. This includes:
- Your geocache logs
- Your trackable logs
- Your gallery images
Information provided for friends' activity may vary from application to application. You will only see the activity of your friends who have also opted-in to friends sharing. Note: Your logs and your friends' logs will always be visible on individual cache pages regardless of whether you have opted-in to friends sharing.

3.5. Souvenirs
Souvenirs are virtual pieces of art displayed on your public profile. There are two main types of souvenirs.
Geographical locations, or events
- To earn a country souvenir, log any geocache in that country as “Found it” or any Event as "Attended."
- To earn a Mega-Event souvenir, log that Mega-Event as “Attended.”
- To earn a GeoTours souvenir, complete the required caches for that GeoTour.
Dates, or time periods
To earn a promotional souvenir for specific day(s) of the year, like “International EarthCache Day,” follow the instructions provided by Geocaching HQ. Since these are time-limited, caches found after the promotion will not award the souvenir.
Are you missing a souvenir that you think you should have received? Email us the URL to your log:
- Select View Log next to your log entry.
- Copy the URL from your browser.
3.6. Treasures basics
Treasures are digital items grouped into collections, often organized around a theme. Geocaching HQ introduced the Treasures feature to celebrate 25 years of geocaching.
Geocachers can collect Treasures when they find and log geocaches that meet the criteria of a Treasure and/or Treasure collection.
For more on Treasures, visit the Geocaching Blog
- March 17, 2025 - Treasures are here! Plus, two new collections in April!
- Feb. 11, 2025 - The first Treasure collections are coming March 17th!
- January 14, 2025 - Treasures: a new feature on Geocaching.com and the mobile app
Treasures is a new and evolving feature and we welcome feedback from the community. Share feedback here.
3.7. Collect Treasures
Collect Treasure by finding and logging geocaches that meet certain criteria, which may include geocache type (excluding Adventure Lab®), size, difficulty, and terrain.
Each Treasure is part of a collection. Each collection has its own criteria. Some collections may have different criteria for each Treasure.
A locked collection is a collection that a player cannot access because they have not completed a required collection or do not meet the player criteria. Player criteria may include find count, membership status, or whether that player has earned a specific souvenir.
3.8. List of souvenirs
The list below includes all souvenirs. While souvenirs for geographical location are still discoverable, souvenirs for specific dates and time periods are likely not. If a souvenir has a time parameter, the souvenir zone will expire at the end of the time period. However, you can still discover souvenirs for events if you log your attendance after the fact.
- Souvenirs for geographical location
- Country/regional souvenirs
- Australia souvenirs
- Canada souvenirs
- Ireland souvenirs
- Germany souvenirs
- United States souvenirs
