Solution
Creating Your Own Route with Caches Along a Route

There are two ways to create your own route with the Caches Along a Route Feature. The instructions are nearly identical and differences are outlined below. Please note that each route must be less than 500 miles (800 km).

Method 1: Creating a route using the map feature
Instructions:

  1. Go to http://www.geocaching.com/my/routeedit.aspx
  2. Select your starting and ending destinations on the map
  3. Continue with instructions as outlined below

Method 2: Entering destinations using the text boxes
Instructions:

  1. Go to http://www.geocaching.com/my/routeedit.aspx
  2. Enter a starting and ending point in the text boxes. You may use any combination of street address, state/province, country and postal code
  3. Click ‘Search’ and continue with instructions as outlined below

Remaining Instructions for Methods 1 and 2:

  1. To edit your route, drag the route line within the map
  2. Click ‘Save Route Changes’
  3. When asked “Are you sure you want to make these changes?” select ‘OK’
  4. Enter a name for your route in the text box under ‘Route Name’
  5. Enter a description of and keyword for the route (optional)
  6. If you want other geocachers to be able to view the route, check the box ‘Include in the Public Directory’
  7. Save the route to view later or, to receive a list of the geocaches along the route, click ‘Create Pocket Query’
  8. Name the Query (query name may be different from route name)
  9. Choose the day of the week that you want the query to run and select how often you want it to run*
  10. Use the sliding ‘Search Radius’ scale to choose the distance to search for caches on either side of the route
  11. Use the sliding ‘Show Me’ scale to choose how many caches you want to see on either side of the route
  12. Choose the Cache Type(s) and Container Type(s) that you want to see, or leave ‘Any Type’ checked to see all
  13. Choose your Filter Options
  14. Select a terrain and difficulty range within which you want to search
  15. Under ‘Placed during’, create any date requirements. You can use this feature to search for caches that are new since your last trip on the route
  16. Choose attributes to include or exclude. Please remember that not all caches are listed with attributes, so this will limit the results returned to you
  17. Choose the email address where you want to receive the Query results and the format you wish to receive
  18. Click ‘Submit information’

* “Uncheck the day of the week after the query runs” will run the query once and save it for later, allowing you to manually run the query at later dates, while “Run this query once and then delete it” will not save the query.
